He found a friend when he needed it most ❤
Please halt in the name of the awww.
A Massachusetts State Police trooper did just that this week, coming to the aid of a helpless young coyote pup who’d been discovered stranded all alone along a busy highway.
When trooper Carlo Mastromattei noticed that the pup’s mother was nowhere to be found, he contacted Lisa Cutting, owner of Ocean View Kennels, for assistance in safely removing the animal from the dangerous situation.
The pup was no longer in immediate danger, but Mastromattei’s generosity didn’t stop there.
At that late hour, all nearby wildlife rehabilitation facilities appeared to be closed. As a result, the trooper decided to go above and beyond his call of duty to keep the little coyote safe until morning.
Mastromattei took the puppy home, where he and his girlfriend kept him warm and fed all night.
Mastromattei took the coyote to the Tufts Wildlife Clinic the next day for a checkup. Fortunately, he was found to be in good health, thanks in large part to the trooper’s quick rescue.
The young coyote has since been placed in the care of a wildlife rehabilitator, according to the Massachusetts State Police. With luck, he’ll keep gaining strength until he’s old enough to be released back into the wild and live his life as nature intended.
Those involved in the pup’s rescue are receiving well-deserved praise from police officials, who wrote in a post:
“The Department expresses heartfelt gratitude to Trooper Mastromattei, his girlfriend, Ocean View Kennels, and Tufts for their compassionate care for this lovely little creature.”
