In Australia, a massive cane toad known as “Toadzilla” was discovered.
The 2.7kg amphibian astounded rangers who discovered it in North Queensland’s Conway National Park.
According to the Queensland Department of Environment and Science, rangers were clearing a trail when they discovered the toad.
Ranger Kylee Gray stated that her team was “blown away” by the “monster” cane toad, which weighed 2.7kg and is thought to be female.
She described it as “almost like a football with legs” to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
“When we got back to base late that afternoon, we weighed it, and we got her at 2.7 kilos, which just shocked us, absolutely blew us away,” she said.
“We measured her, and I believe we got 255mm, but I believe the Queensland Museum will do their measurements when they get her.”
The Guinness World Record for the largest toad in history is 2.65kg, which was set in 1991 by a pet toad in Sweden.
Ms Gray stated that rangers had dubbed the toad “Toadzilla,” and that the museum would investigate whether it was the largest toad ever discovered.
According to the WWF, cane toads are native to South and Central America and were introduced to Australia in 1935.
Toads primarily consume living insects, but will consume anything they can get their hands on, including pet food and household scraps.
Toads are one of Australia’s most damaging pests, with an estimated population of over two billion.
