Because most dogs are highly friendly, it is in their nature for them to befriend any living species they come across. They also enjoy discovering new locations, so when they go exploring in the neighborhood, they could bring some company home with them. However, one dog took things a bit too far!
A family from Washington County was taken aback when they discovered their dog had brought home a young animal he had discovered while exploring in the woods not far from their home. And it’s not just any baby animal; it’s a bear cub. The family was at a loss for what to do at first, but upon closer inspection, they discovered that their loving dog had saved the bear’s life.
The cub, which weighed less than 1.2 pounds, was in bad shape. The small creature appeared dehydrated and disoriented, as if he had been abandoned by his family or had become separated from them, as neither his mother nor his siblings could be discovered.
Richard Vaughan posted on Facebook, “Look what the dog brought home.” “A household pet dog took this newborn infant black bear cub home this afternoon, and a conservation officer checks it out.”
Fortunately, the helpless cub was immediately placed in the greatest possible hands, with this family hurrying to assist him. They quickly took the newborn bear to the Virginia Wildlife Center for assistance. As soon as they arrived, the dedicated staff placed him in an incubator to ensure that he was adequately supplied with the vitamins and minerals he need to recuperate.
Thankfully, the young one healed completely within months and is currently living in the wild with an adopted mother.
“It’s a fantastic example of all of us coming together to help a wild animal in need!” The director of the Wildlife Center, Amanda Nicholson, told Bored Panda. “On Wednesday, the black bear cub was successfully nurtured! He’s currently living in the woods with a new mother.”
