This is the moment a pack of nearly totally black wolves was captured on video while traversing a Minnesota route.
The International Wolf Center estimates that spotting a black wolf is a 1.5-2 percent likelihood, so you can imagine how unusual it is to see many at once.
Although this ratio varies depending on where you are in Minnesota, for example, half of the wolves in Yellowstone National Park are black.
The caption of the unusual footage published by Voyageurs Wolf Project’s YouTube website stated:
“This wolf group is nearly completely made up of black wolves, which is unusual for Minnesota!” Of course, this is not to imply that it does not occur, but rather that it is not the norm.”
“Based on statistics from 1980 to 2020, black wolves account for 1.5-2 percent of wolves in Minnesota.”
According to Minnesota’s DNR, the wolf population has more than quadrupled in the previous 40 years.
