A Woman Catches Her Senior Dog On The Porch Snatching A Stray Cat

“She’s decided my back porch is her house and my dog is her dog.”

Cheeky has never met a cat that she didn’t like. Because of her laid-back demeanor and the many foster kittens her mother, Liz Heck, takes in, the 14-year-old dog is an expert when it comes to dealing with them.

Cheeky, on the other hand, recently met a cat that proved to be a challenge.

A stray cat began visiting Cheeky’s family’s front porch around six months ago to eat the free food that Heck puts out for needy animals in the area. The stray cat grew bolder over time and chose to examine the rest of Heck’s land.

Heck told The Dodo, “She crawled over the fence into our property.” “My wife went outside to let Cheeky out, unaware that the cat was present, and the cat became startled and scratched Cheeky on the nose.”

The encounter surprised both animals. But Heck and her wife realized the cat had returned for a reason: she required a secure haven.

“We then gradually introduced Cheeky to the cat, assuring her that Cheeky would not harm her,” said Heck. “For the past five days, [the cat] has barely left our garden or porch.”

Heck had no idea how close Cheeky and the stray cat, now named Sushi, had grown until she came outside one day and discovered the two animals cuddling contentedly in the sun. Cheeky had clearly worked her spell and won over the anxious cat.

“When [Sushi] comes outdoors, she enjoys hanging around with Cheeky,” Heck added. “So we put cat food on the back porch for her and a heating pad in a box on the back porch where she rests at night,” says the owner.

“Cheeky is too large for the heating pad,” she explained, “but when it’s sunny, she just walks outside to sleep on her dog bed or in the grass, and the cat likes to rub up against her and let Cheeky wipe her head.”

Sushi looks to be spayed and “ear tipped,” but Heck intends to vaccinate her once she is more comfortable with humans.

On Reddit, Heck said, “We make sure she stays warm and gets new food and drink.” “Since she’s decided my back porch is her house and my dog is her dog, I’m going to purchase her flea treatment and take her to the clinic for immunizations.”

Sushi is coming up to the notion of starting a family, and when it gets too chilly outside, he’ll come inside. While the stray cat retains her freedom, she clearly likes having someone to cuddle and play with.

And the more cat buddies Cheeky has, the better.
