A Jaguar Rescue Center staffer in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, Costa Rica, spotted a little three-fingered newborn sloth weeping on the beach after sliding out of his mother’s clutches. The employee acted quickly and took the cub to the vet to confirm that it was unhurt, then filmed the cub’s scream to play outdoors in order to warn the mother.
We recorded the baby’s cry and played it near the tree to attract the mother’s attention; we waited patiently till the mother came down for the infant.
After a long time, the mother answered by coming halfway down the tree to reconnect with her child. She then gave the employee a long (perhaps grateful) glance before gently returning to her tent.
This was not the first sloth reunion organized by the group.
