A small Australian coastal community has been left deeply shaken after a disturbing incident involving a kitten and a rabbit prompted a police investigation and widespread public outrage. Authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the case after videos recorded by witnesses circulated online.

The incident reportedly unfolded at Port Lincoln Wharf on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula, where witnesses said a 21-year-old woman threw the body of a kitten into the harbor after swinging it by its tail. Several people who were present also alleged that a deceased rabbit had been thrown into the water moments earlier.

Gracie Giblin (pictured) was filmed on Tuesday night at Port Lincoln Wharf swinging the tiny tabby cat by the tail before laughing loudly and hurling it into the ocean.

According to eyewitness accounts, the woman had been driving around the wharf before returning and drawing attention to the animals. Witnesses said they immediately contacted police after observing the incident, describing the scene as shocking and distressing.

Volunteers from a local animal rescue organization later searched the harbor and recovered the bodies of both animals. Rescuers said the discovery was emotionally difficult, and they chose to give the kitten and rabbit names before handing them over to authorities for further examination.

South Australia Police confirmed officers attended an address in Port Lincoln and spoke with a 21-year-old woman as part of the investigation. Authorities said she was later taken to hospital for a medical assessment. Police also confirmed they are working alongside the RSPCA South Australia to determine whether any animal welfare offences may have occurred.

The RSPCA acknowledged receiving a report about the incident and stated that investigations remain ongoing. Because the inquiry is still active, officials have declined to provide further details at this stage.

Videos of the incident quickly spread across social media before being removed, generating strong reactions from thousands of viewers. Many expressed sadness for the animals and called for a thorough investigation, while community leaders urged the public to avoid speculation and allow police and animal welfare authorities to complete their work.

Animal welfare organizations continue to emphasize that all suspected cases of animal cruelty should be reported to the appropriate authorities. They also note that individuals experiencing serious mental health difficulties should be encouraged to seek professional support, while investigations into any alleged criminal conduct proceed through the legal system.
