Ronald Ong, a photo manipulation artist, makes bizarre picture mashups that skillfully combine animals with food and other unexpected elements. From a zebra with a stack of Oreos for a body (aptly named “ZEBREO”) to a fox with a loaf of bread for a body (aptly named “LOAFOX”), Ong’s portfolio of odd, animal hybrids looks like they’re right out of a delectable dream.
Ong edits and splices photos of genuine animals together with things that appear to be part of the creatures’ body. He combines a round-bodied hedgehog with a fluffy dandelion in one piece, producing a hybrid species that might easily be imagined existing in another universe.
In another piece, Ong replaced a tiger’s belly with sliced oranges, giving the impression that the animal’s insides are formed of the delicious fruit. Whatever photo combination Ong concocts, his continuous series demonstrates the skilled artist’s whimsical mind and sense for texture and color.
