The Helix Tattoo Trend Has People Inking Delicate Images Along the Sides of Their Ears

Many people like the idea of getting a tattoo but do not want a showy piece of body art. Rather, they prefer something small and subtle that most people will overlook. If you’re one of these tattoo enthusiasts, we’ve got a trend for you. The designs, known as ear tattoos, are inked onto the cartilage and lobe. What’s the best part? When they’re hidden by hair, they’re often undetectable

These trendy tattoos are known by another name. They’re also known as helix tattoos if they’re inked along the outer ridge of the ear, due to their placement along the helix. This creates the appearance of a decorative cuff, such as the kind found in jewellery

The small canvas and unusual shape of the ear necessitate some creative problem solving, but it’s a challenge that many artists relish. For example, Korean tattoo artist Zihee has created two stunning iterations of the helix tattoo. Each has a thin vine that wraps from the bottom to the top of the ear. In one, Zihee has added two flowers to the lobe as if they were a permanent earring. When it comes to ear tattoos, florals aren’t the only option. Text, as well as simple lines and shapes, are fun ways to use ink without the time commitment that larger pieces require.

Getting tattoos on your ears is one of the newest Instagram body art trends.

Small ear tattoos, also known as helix tattoos, have a minimalist aesthetic. They are frequently in the form of simple blooms or geometric shapes.

They are a beautifully subtle way to sport body ink, regardless of the subject.
