In the remote wilderness of Evans Creek, Washington, a lone dog wandered the rugged terrain—thin, frightened, and completely alone. He had been spotted by campers, but every attempt to help him ended in growls and retreat. No one could get close.
When Amanda heard about the stray, later named Bear, she knew she had to act. Together with her friend Dylan, she set out on a mission to bring him to safety. But Bear was wary. For two days, they tried offering him food, speaking gently, and sitting at a distance—but nothing worked.
That’s when Amanda had a crazy idea.
A Bold Plan to Save a Life
“If he won’t come to us, I’ll make him think I need help,” she said.
Amanda lay down on the dirt road where Bear had been seen most often. She curled up in a fetal position, slowed her breathing, and remained completely still—playing dead.
Minutes passed. Then twenty. Then forty.
Bear, watching from the shadows, took a hesitant step forward. His instincts told him something was different.
Slowly, cautiously, he approached.
First, he sniffed the air, then inched closer to Amanda’s body. He circled her, waiting for movement, but she remained lifeless. Finally, he mustered the courage to nudge her with his nose.
She didn’t react.
For another hour, Bear stayed nearby, his fear melting into curiosity. Finally, he lay down next to her.
Amanda barely moved—just enough to show she was no threat. She let him be the one to decide.
Then, after nearly two hours, something incredible happened.
From Fear to Trust
Amanda slowly sat up. Bear flinched but didn’t run. Instead, he looked at her, his eyes softening.
“It’s okay, buddy,” she whispered.
For the first time, Bear didn’t back away. He stayed right beside her.
Dylan, who had been watching in awe, moved carefully, offering a leash. Amanda reached out, ever so gently, and Bear let her. He had finally decided—this human was safe.
He followed them to the car without resistance.
A New Beginning
At the veterinary clinic, Bear received food, water, and medical attention. He had no microchip, and no one came forward to claim him. But fate had other plans.
A loving family, touched by his story, stepped in to adopt him. Today, Bear no longer wanders alone—he sleeps on a warm bed, plays in a big yard, and has the love he never knew before.
Amanda’s patience and compassion gave him the second chance he so desperately needed.

What amazing loving patience!
Some angels are called Amanda.
Some angels are called Baby Bear.
I believe every human has a bit of both inside himself.
What a touching story. And a lesson for life!

Amazing ❤️❤️❤️
What an outstanding person you are ❤️
So sweet 🙂
What a heart warming and touching story. That has touched my heart and made me cry with tears of happiness and joy for both Amanda and baby bear. It’s the same nickname we use affectionately for our beautiful Akita, German Shepard cross family dog; (Keiko).
All you need is love!!!
