One small penguin made the choice to board an Antarctic taxi in search of a secure landing spot. The little animal unexpectedly appears on a boat carrying a group of photographers in an old Vladimir Seliverstov video. Naturally, this led to some great footage of the creature standing at the bow and appearing not particularly enormous but unquestionably in charge before hopping off as if nothing had happened.
Seliverstov provides some background on the penguin’s journey. When we were traveling around an iceberg, “[an] Adelie penguin leapt into our Zodiac [inflatable boat]. He was escaping from a leopard seal and didn’t want to go back into the water so we decided to take him to the iceberg where his mates were waiting,” Seliverstov explains.
The flightless bird leaps off the side of the boat and lands on the frozen ground to bring the short video to a close. After that, as the boat’s passengers wave goodbye, he sprints up the slope. Thank you, too! They were undoubtedly as appreciative of the penguin’s appearance as the bird was for being able to escape the leopard seal.
