When A Woman Learns That Her Cat’s Best Friend is Losing Her Home, She Knows Exactly What To Do

“I blurted out, ‘Give her to me’” 💕

Sir Nick Fury has always had a dog-like demeanor. He enjoys playing fetch, meeting new people, giving high fives, and, of course, going for leash walks. When his mother first started taking him for walks, she was concerned that he would wander off and get into something he shouldn’t. What is her solution? She bought him a pair of bat wings so he can get out and about without worrying about him sneaking into places he shouldn’t be.

Nick and his mother were out for a walk about two years ago when he noticed Shakira, the neighbor’s cat, lurking in the woods. Nick, on the other hand, was a little wary at first. He knew she would be his future best friend as soon as he saw her.

“Nick wanted to be friends right away,” Nick’s mother, Shelby Hyman, told The Dodo. “When we first met Shakira, she was extremely reserved, but Nick persisted. I noticed that as soon as he put on his bat wings, she became more interested and approachable. I found out she adores them!”

Nick and Shakira began spending almost every day together after that. On his walks, he always looked for her, and if he couldn’t find her for some reason, he always made a point of letting her know he was nearby so she could come out and play.

“He’d cry out for her on the days we couldn’t find her,” Hyman said. “She’d hide in the woods or on her patio a lot, and as soon as she came out, Nick would trot over to her flapping his little bat wings and being all chirpy.” It was adorable!”

Shakira’s owner was well aware of her and Nick’s friendship and even arranged for Nick’s family to look after her while she was away for the summer. Hyman’s neighbor found her a few weeks ago and informed her of some bad news. She needed to relocate due to health reasons and was unable to take Shakira with her, so she planned to give her to a shelter.

“I blurted out, ‘Give her to me,’ when she said she had already contacted a shelter group because she couldn’t keep Shakira,” Hyman said. “I made a snap decision.” My son thought I was insane, but I never questioned my choice.”

Hyman, Nick, and the rest of the family had fallen in love with Shakira over the years. She realized there was no way they could say goodbye, so she adopted her into the family. In any case, she’d always been an honorary member. It was now official.

Sharkia is settling in nicely to her new home so far. She enjoys living with Nick and the other cat in the family, Neo. She’s still shy at first, but she’s warming up to everyone, and no one — especially Nick — can imagine life without her.

“Adopting her and bringing her into our family was the best decision we’ve ever made,” Hyman said. “She appears to be ecstatic to no longer be alone.” I have a strong feeling it was meant to be.”
