“You may rest better knowing that your Baby Girl has a bright future ahead of her.”
A puppy named Baby Girl sat stoically on the grass of a residential street in Green Bay, Wisconsin, last weekend. She may have been tied to a fire hydrant by her leash, just waiting for her owner to return, which is what Kylie Rose Engelhardt assumed at first.
Fortunately, Baby Girl wasn’t left out in the cold for long. Engelhardt noticed her and came to check on her. “I waited outdoors with her for an hour, keeping her warm, hoping for someone to return, but no one did,” Engelhardt posted on Facebook.
A backpack containing all of Baby Girl’s favorite things — food, sweets, and toys — as well as a tragic message, was placed next to her. When Engelhardt realized Baby Girl had been abandoned, she took her to the Wisconsin Humane Society.
“I gave it my all, everyone,” Engelhardt wrote. “Believe me, it tears my heart as well.”
The photo of Baby Girl alone with her belongings has gotten a lot of attention this week. The 5-year-old canine is doing well, according to the shelter.
“She is doing well and receiving a lot of TLC from our team,” Angela Speed, the shelter’s vice president of communications, told us. “She enjoys walks, toys, and does an adorable’sit’ for goodies. She’s a cheerful and friendly puppy.”
Wisconsin Humane Society issued a heartfelt letter on Facebook yesterday, specifically addressing Baby Girl’s prior owner. The shelter emphasized how tough it was for them to abandon Baby Girl when they felt they could no longer care for her.
“We understand how difficult it is for someone to let go of a cherished pet, and how stressful it may be for the owner as well,” Speed added. “We truly wanted to let the owner know that we weren’t passing judgment and recognized the love in all they did to prepare Baby Girl to be identified and nurtured as soon as possible.”
“First and foremost, we are very sorry you had to part with your closest companion,” said Wisconsin Humane Society on Facebook. “It’s clear how much you loved her, and we can see you did your best despite your own physical issues and life obstacles.” We notice your affection in the bag you painstakingly prepared with all of her favorite items. We can see your affection in the way you fastened her leash to keep her from being hit by a car. We can see your affection in the manner you placed her in the heart of a busy area where she would be easily spotted. We can feel your affection in the way Baby Girl looks happy and healthy.
And we see your love in the message you left begging someone to save her when you couldn’t.”
Baby Girl’s “stray hold” has ended, and she will be ready for adoption in the following days. Meanwhile, the beautiful pooch is getting lots of hugs from shelter workers as she waits for her second shot at a loving family.
“Rest assured that she is secure, that she is receiving a lot of care from our team, and that she is on her way to finding her next loving home very soon,” Wisconsin Humane Society stated. “You may rest better knowing that your Baby Girl has a bright future ahead of her.”
