Branches of gleaming metallic metal “grow” to form elegant animal sculptures

Twigs and branches produce beautiful trees that emphasize the natural world’s power and beauty. Artist Kang Dong Hyun creates awe-inspiring animal sculptures that are born from intricate systems using the same principle. The Korean artist uses a graphic pattern of branches and paths to create bodies and face characteristics that resemble lions, bears, moose, and other animals.

In Kang’s work, there is a paradox at work. Despite the artist’s use of natural shapes, the spectator can see the stainless steel finish. This aesthetically merges natural branches with man-made fabrication, making them one and the same. The second juxtaposition in the work—animals as twigs—suggests a similar sense of oneness. Humans, animals, and trees are all intertwined on this earth.
