The Delicate Effect of Lace is Mimicked by Amazing Hand-Cut Paper Art

Parth Kothekar, an Indian artist, puts his precise knife to the test in his remarkable paper work. From one sheet of paper, he cuts elaborate, lace-like motifs until the entire surface is perforated with small geometric holes. He imitates the elaborate patterns of bug and butterfly wings in this way.

“I used to do enormous graffiti artworks with stencils.” “It was at this time that I discovered I could make something new by flipping stencils, and it was my first papercut,” Kothekar tells My Modern Met. “The process of reversing the pattern and carving it from a single sheet of paper is exciting since the final outcome is a surprise until the very end,” says the artist.

The artist creates airy moths and butterflies, as well as magnificent bird species, with his painstaking cutting process. Each piece has a doily-like pattern on the interior of the creature’s body. Without shredding the delicate paper boundaries, the artist manages to insert a variety of small holes and cuts inside the shape. As a result, his artwork appears to have been stamped rather than carved by hand.

Original art may be purchased through Kothekar’s Etsy site, and you can keep up with his current work by following him on Instagram.
