Wild Red Fox Returns After Months To Hear More Banjo Tunes

by Stephen King

FacebookTweetPinLinkedIn

Andy Thorn, a brilliant musician from Colorado, became well-known as the person who plays banjo for a fox when one of his videos went viral last year. On November 1, 2021, he posted a video of himself serenading an inquisitive wild fox in his garden, which has earned nearly 4 million views on YouTube. The unique meeting has captivated the public, and Thorn has released multiple further clips of the red fox reappearing.

Thorn, a longstanding member of the jam band Leftover Salmon, frequently puts his new songs to the test on his canine companion. In fact, his unusual musical link with the wild fox has inspired some of his own original music, like Fox Songs and Other Tales from the Pandemic, a full-length album composed by Thorn and his wife. And the red fox, christened Foxy by Thorn, has recently returned for some more easy listening.

The musician released a video of the red fox popping by during a cold spell in late March, tracking paw prints across the snow-dusted ground while listening carefully to Thorn’s melodious plucking. Another video from Foxy’s most recent visit shows the furry critter being serenaded by two banjos as Thorn is joined on stage by fellow musician Billy Failing, also known as Billy Strings. The wild red fox in the video was sure to keep a safe distance from the strange arrival while still enjoying the private performance from his nearby perch on a rock.
