These Large-Scale Hyperrealistic Paintings Bring Big Cats to Life on Canvases

by Stephen King

While you’re unlikely to see a lion, a tiger, or a leopard in real life, lions, tigers, and leopards feature on Nick Sider’s canvases. The artist from New York City makes large-scale renderings of enormous cats that look like close-up images. He depicts all of his subjects in hyperrealistic detail after many hours of work.

Sider, who was born in Canada, did not begin painting until he was 25 years old. He began to garner acclaim for his stunning acrylic pieces celebrating nature after relocating to New York City. Despite the fact that he paints a wide range of creatures, large cats have been his muse since boyhood, and he returns to them time and time again.

“Extending beyond what a photograph could ever represent,” Sider says of his paintings. As a result, in addition to realism, he enriches each painting with a close-up view of the animal. These cat paintings are painted in the style of human portraits, with a focus on the eyes and expressions. “When a subject on my canvas begins to come alive,” Sider says, “it is my favorite moment while painting.”

Nick Sider, a New York City-based artist, creates hyperrealistic paintings of large cats.

He paints tigers, lions, leopards, and other animals in incredible realism.

The large creatures come alive on the canvases.
