You Can Now Ride a Railbike Through California’s Scenic Redwood Forest

Skunk Train is repurposing unused train tracks as adventurous tour routes in an effort to breathe new life into some of America’s historic railway lines. An excursion through the world-famous Redwood Route in northern California is one of its most popular experiences. Instead of taking the train, you and a friend can pedal an electric-powered railbike designed for two.

The two-hour guided railbike tour begins at Fort Brag, just off the coast. From there, you’ll meander along Pudding Creek, cross wooden trestle bridges, and marvel at the majestic beauty of Mendocino County’s ancient redwoods. You’ll have a 50-minute break at Glen Blair Junction to enjoy a picnic or explore the woods on foot.

The railbikes do not require steering. You and your partner can simply sit back and pedal at a leisurely pace while taking in the scenery without having to drive. “You’re free to look around at the wonder of this untouched stretch of the natural world,” Skunk Train says, “spotting blue herons, osprey, an occasional lounging turtle, perhaps a playful river otter, a deer munching on the foliage, and maybe even a bear during peak berry season.”

See the Skunk Train railbikes below, and book your Redwoods adventure here.
