In his breathtaking arrangements, Montreal-based artist Raku Inoue emphasizes natural connections. He fashions leaves, petals, and twigs into the forms of various animals using miscellaneous objects, ranging from multicolored fish to scarlet birds.

Inoue practiced sculpting, graphic design, painting, and drawing prior to creating these plant-based arrangements. He tells My Modern Met that nature has always been a wonderful source of inspiration and once on a dreary day, it gave him a sign. “The wind was rustling the rose shrub in my garden, so I went outside and gathered some petals, stems, and leaves. I used those to create my very first floral bug sculpture, which helped launch the floral works for which I have become renowned.

When creating his own art, Inoue lets his surroundings dictate what he will make next. As a result, the color scheme of his arrangements will change with the seasons. For instance, he depicts animals in the spring using blossoms and green foliage and warm red leaves in the fall. Typically, he explains, “I will find a specific material that I find attractive, such as leaves or a twig.” “I then think of a topic that would really benefit from the resources. In both instances, I prefer to draw attention to the aesthetic qualities of the materials and let nature shine through my designs.

Montreal-based artist Raku Inoue 井上 羅来 creates fantastic arrangements using plants.

To construct creatures, he meticulously arranges individual flower petals and leaves of various hues.

His artwork has a seasonal color palette since he employs found objects.

In the fall, his art uses warm red leaves, and in the spring, the animals are made of blossoms and green foliage.
