Mila the pug puppy captured our hearts the moment Oliver and Friends Farm Rescue and Sanctuary in Oklahoma announced they will do all necessary to give the 7-week-old dog the best life possible.
Unfortunately, the animal sanctuary revealed devastating news on Monday. Mila suffered a heart attack while undergoing potentially life-changing surgery.
“I have no idea how to accept or comprehend this. “Her loss is unbearable,” the sanctuary said on Facebook.
Mila and her brother were initially rescued by Skiatook Paws and Claws, but Mila, who was born with bilateral luxated elbows, a rare and difficult disease that causes her paws to be entirely upside-down, required special care.
Fortunately, the people at Oliver and Friends Farm Rescue and Sanctuary had previously cared for a dog with the same problem and were eager to assist Mila.
“She will never walk, run, or play like a normal dog without surgery,” they stated on Facebook.
The animal sanctuary went into detail about Mila’s rehabilitation and sought for donations, citing the expense of the treatment.
Mila would require CT imaging as well as 3D printings of her legs before they could proceed with surgery.
While everyone was positive about Mila’s treatment plan, it wasn’t without risk.
Mila was scheduled for surgery early Monday morning, but something dreadful had happened while her rescuers waited outside the operating room.
Mila suffered a heart attack and was unable to be resuscitate “after 12 tries at CPR and everything humanly imaginable.”
“She was so adored, and we, as well as her vet staff, are eviscerated,” the animal sanctuary stated on Facebook.
We’re devastated to hear this awful update. I had high hopes that this would significantly improve Mila’s life.
