A newborn southern pudu, one of the world’s tiniest deer species, has arrived to the Oakland Zoo.
The zoo uploaded a video of the baby fawn exploring its surroundings while staying close to its mother.
Southern pudus are only approximately 33 inches long and 24 to 29 inches tall, according to the zoo. Male pudus have antlers that are about three inches long.
Northern pudus are slightly smaller with darker fur.
The Chilean puma feeds on southern pudus, which account for around half of its diet.
According to the zoo, the little deer would bark to warn others before running into underground tunnels they dig to avoid predators.
