What should have been a routine day at the workplace for a cop and his faithful horse buddy became a total nightmare. The four-legged cop was fatally injured as a result of a horrific mishap. In a sad scenario, the unfortunate horse was lying on the ground, spending her last moments with her companion soothing her!
Charlotte and officer D. Herrejon had been companions for almost four years, since she joined the Houston Police Department, and they were patrolling the city’s streets when something dreadful happened. The horse became agitated and bolted into the middle of the roadway, where she was struck by a truck. Officer Herrejon, who had been startled and had fallen off her back, was in disbelief. The police horse, on the other hand, was too late!
Charlotte was taking her dying breaths in the middle of the roadway, with her leg fractured and other injuries. Officer Herrejon was heartbroken and couldn’t believe his eyes, but all he could think of was being at his devoted partner’s side in her final moments. So he knelt next to Charlotte, wrapped his arms around her neck and rested his head on hers, and comforted her. It was a heartbreaking moment because the two had such a strong bond!
The Houston Police Department revealed their faithful police horse had passed away later that day, and they paid respect to her in an emotional Facebook post.
“It is with sorrowful hearts that we announce the demise of Charlotte, an HPD Mounted Patrol horse, who died this morning in the line of duty…” the text of the article says “Charlotte arrived at HPD as a 2-year-old Tennessee Walker from Oklahoma who had never been started…. She adored her job and was always eager to go to work, whether it was putting bad men in jail or giving youngsters nuzzles. She spent four years serving the people of Houston. “She will be greatly missed!”
