“If Dexter wants something, Dexter will get or do anything he wants” 🥰💪

Dexter’s family was overjoyed to add such a joyful, positive dog to their family when they got him in June 2015, and they quickly realized they couldn’t picture life without him. However, nine months later, they were on the verge of losing him.

Dexter’s mother, Kentee Pasek, told The Dodo, “An owner’s WORST fear, a freak accident.” “Dexter escaped from the yard, and we went on the hunt right away, but he’s a quick runner. Tim, my husband, discovered him running down the side of the road. Dexter darted across the road in front of a speeding vehicle. Tim informed me that Dexter had ‘somewhat damaged his front legs.’ When I arrived, the situation was even worse than I had anticipated. We live in the highlands and had to travel almost an hour to see an emergency veterinarian.

We weren’t sure he’d make it, but he did, and Dexter’s life was spared thanks to Dr. Franklin of the San Juan Vet Clinic. Dexter’s will to live, according to Dr. Franklin.”

Dexter survived his trauma, but it took him a long time to recuperate. One of his front legs was amputated, while the other was trapped at the elbow. He was forced to wear a cone for about a year and had to relearn how to walk and move around. It was a lot to bear, yet Dexter managed to stay the same dog his family had always known.

“He was so ecstatic to be alive,” Pasek added. “He was cheerful, upbeat, and upbeat.” On several occasions, his positive attitude spread to the rest of us. He was content simply to exist. I put him outdoors in the sun in his kennel one day, and he was overjoyed to be outside, even though he was injured. He was happiest when he was among us.”

As Dexter recovered, he developed what his mother refers to as his “tripod peg leg hop walk.” Dexter, on the other hand, is a dog that enjoys speed and exploration, and he immediately recognized he’d need more.

So he trained himself to walk erect on his two rear legs, exactly like a human, and his mother couldn’t believe her eyes when she first saw him do it.

“I put Dexter in the front yard for his morning ritual one morning, and he was so pleased, I walked back inside to grab my coffee,” Pasek explained. “He was up on the front porch when I returned outdoors.” I was taken aback and a little sad since he… had recently undergone another operation. I knew he wasn’t placing any weight on his front leg, so I was stumped as to how he managed to ascend those steps. I brought him down the stairs and back to the yard, where I pulled out my phone to video his activities for myself and everyone else in our house.

He turned around and repeated the action. I saw him heading up the front steps in a straight line… I was taken aback and worried he’d injure himself again. I recall being both amazed and terrified by this tenacious dog.”

The rest, as they say, is history. Dexter rapidly learned the technique of walking, much like the rest of his family, and now walks upright most of the time. It’s mind-boggling how quickly he can move. Of course, seeing a dog walk like a person is unusual, so Dexter immediately became something of a local celebrity. Everyone knows and loves him, but Dexter hasn’t changed at all as a result of his notoriety. He’s still the same cheerful, determined, down-to-earth dog he’s always been, and his family is ecstatic.

“If Dexter wants something, Dexter will get it or do it,” Pasek explained. “We’re going to slow him down.”

Dexter is not just a local celebrity, but he’s also become a bit of an internet celebrity, allowing the entire world to witness and be captivated with him and his beautiful stride. Many people find it difficult to believe Dexter and his walk are real, a sentiment his family understands completely.

“Imagine what it’s like when a dog walks up to you and you’ve never seen anything like that… “We definitely take people by surprise,” Pasek added.

While Dexter’s walking style is very charming and fantastic, his path to get to where he is today was not simple. Dexter never gave up in the face of adversity, and he’s a wonderful example of how strong canines can be.

“Adapting, adjusting, and accepting a new normal” is the theme of Dexter’s journey, according to Pasek. “I believe we can remember how Dexter altered his life if we recall how Dexter affected ours… This has showed me that we can conquer even in our darkest, most difficult situations.”
