“It took some convincing to get her to come inside with us … she was so scared.”
The anxious puppy was unsure of what to do when Valentine entered her first real home a year ago.
The dalmatian/pit bull mix had spent her young life in a hoarding scenario giving birth to puppies. She was unsure of what safety or comfort meant to her.
Ashley Moses, Valentine’s mother, told The Dodo that when they first met her, she was quite reserved. We couldn’t get a sense of her personality during our meet-and-greet with her because she wasn’t opening up to us. She looked so dejected and you could tell she was crushed within.
Though they weren’t certain they could manage a dog like Valentine, Moses and her fiance realised they had to give it a shot.
“As soon as I saw her image, I recognised her as our dog. It may sound corny, but Moses affirmed that they fell in love at first sight. “We both shared our concerns about adopting her after we had already done so. Were we able to manage a dog like this? What happens if she never talks? What do we do with a fearful dog? We’ve never done any rescue work.
Moses’ heart ached as he saw Valentine’s hesitant response to her new house. Valentine wasn’t ready to trust after everything she had been through, despite her owner’s best efforts to let him know immediately away that she was secure.
Moses remarked, “It took some persuasion to convince her to come inside with us. She was unable to leave the entrance of our house because she was so terrified and perplexed.
She said, “She was afraid, but we enticed her in with lots of food. She remained really reclusive, depressed, and unwilling to engage with us much during the evening.

The following morning, Moses anticipated the rescue dog to be withdrawn, but was instead greeted with kisses of appreciation. It appeared as though Valentine’s demeanour had entirely altered over night.
It dawned on Valentine that she was at home.
She was a completely different dog, according to Moses. She was bouncing, playing, kissing me, and generally acting extremely happy. Because we did not anticipate her to open up so quickly, it was a chaotic time!
Valentine’s parents assisted her in overcoming anxieties from her previous life, like walking down stairs and going outside in the rain, over the course of the following few months. Moses and her fiancee are overjoyed that they trusted their instincts and took a chance on Valentine at this point.

She is the happiest little girl who loves to play with her toys, eat, and spend time with her family most of all, according to Moses. She is the most animated, entertaining dog ever. We can’t wait to love her indefinitely because of all the progress she’s made.
Valentine has the same sentiment.
