Midas, a four-eared kitten born in Turkey recently, surprised everyone by having a permanent mlem and a heart-shaped spot on her tummy. Midas, who was born as a stray in a family’s backyard in Ankara, Turkey, has snatched the global spotlight, amassing an impressive 125,000 Instagram followers.
Midas’s unusual appearance is the result of a genetic mutation that has given her a second set of ears and a jaw that has never settled properly, but she is thriving despite her differences. According to Reuters, veterinarian Resat Nuri Aslan stated that her condition has no negative effects on her health or hearing, and that all earflaps, big and small, connect to the ear canal.
Midas, who was born with five siblings, immediately stood out to Canis Dosemeci, who has since adopted her into the family. “We never considered buying a cat; we just wanted to rescue a cat from the street and adopt her,” Dosemeci explained.
Midas, a fitting name for a fitting cat, was inspired by the King with the Golden Touch from Greek mythology. In addition to his ability to turn everything he touched into gold, King Midas was well-known for his donkey ears, which is where the connection to Kitty Midas first emerged.
And if all that isn’t enough to earn your affections, Midas is partial to showing off a white patch on her black tummy that looks just like a heart. Our girl really knows how to work the angles.
Midas is far from alone in the list of body parts that appear where they should not. In 2019, a rescue revealed that one puppy, now known as Narwhal, had an extra tail on his head.
The same year, another dog with two mouths and one ear was discovered (instead of two ears and one mouth). The second mouth had some cracked teeth that were removed, and the pup, named Toad, appeared to be happy and healthy after that.
