“He was asking for help” ❤️
Willians Mollo Flores stepped out earlier this month to take his dog for an evening walk near his home in Chile, never expecting to end up saving a life. But he went above and beyond. He saved two lives.
Flores noticed his dog tugging at the leash in a direction off their path as they passed by an old construction site. It didn’t take Flores long to figure out why.
“My dog led me to an abandoned puppy,” Flores explained to us. “The dog howled a lot.”
But, as it turns out, the pup wasn’t just trying to get Flores’ attention.
The spot where the abandoned puppy stood was marked with a number of deep, open holes. And inside one of them was another dog.
He was trapped.
The first dog’s actions suddenly made sense.
“He was pleading for assistance,” Flores explained. “His sibling was in a hole, and he couldn’t get out by himself.”
Here’s a snippet of that terrifying scene:
“I didn’t know what to do,” Flores admitted. “It was a very tense situation.” But I dashed home, grabbed some water, food, and a rope, and then ran to the dog’s aid. “I climbed into the hole and got the puppy out.”
Once out of the hole, the trapped dog ran to his sibling, as if to thank him for his assistance in his rescue.
Flores had brought food and water for the dogs, but they were still too weak to follow him home. Flores thus remained with them. Over the next four hours, he used social media to solicit help from others.
That’s where animal rescuer Valeska Torres Tapia learned of the situation. Though by then it was midnight, she still raced to the spot — relieving Flores of his lifesaving post.
“I brought the dogs home,” Tapia told The Dodo. “They were afraid, but I gave them all the love I could show them.”
Tapia returned home and bathed and groomed the dogs. She could tell that the loyalty they shared, which helped lead to their rescue, was deeply felt.
“They’re inseparable,” Tapia explained. “It’s the most lovely thing.”
Angel and Salvador were their names.
Though it’s unclear how the dogs ended up alone, with one of them trapped in a hole, Tapia believes they were abandoned there by a puppy mill operator.
It appears that the only thing they knew they could rely on was each other.
“They hug each other, look after each other, and don’t let go,” Tapia said. “These two little ones look like conjoined twins because they are constantly hugging.”
Flores and his dog discovered the hopeless place only a few weeks ago. Angel and Salvador had been abandoned, but they now have a forever home together. Tapia made the decision to adopt the dogs herself.
“I always try to find them a beautiful family after rescuing a dog,” she said. “But, because Angel and Salvador are inseparable, I know it will be difficult for them to find a family. They are inseparable. So I’ll keep them — and shower them with more love than they could ever imagine.”
