“She doesn’t have to wait anymore” ❤️️
According to rescuer Suzette Hall, lost dogs often roam around, whereas abandoned pets sit and wait for their owners to return.
So, when a group of Good Samaritans informed Hall that a dog had been hiding behind a construction sign along a busy road for three days, Hall anticipated that capturing the terrified pup would be difficult. Not only was the puppy in a difficult-to-reach spot, but she also didn’t want to be transported away from the site where she hoped to see her family again.
And, despite the efforts of an entire community, Hall was correct.
“She was terrified of people,” Hall explained to The Dodo. “When people tried to sit with her or stroll by with their dogs, she would just bark at them.”
Even though they couldn’t get near to the dog, some neighbors helped out, such as the individual who volunteered to boil hot dogs for Hall to use as bait.
Even with warm hot dogs in the trap and an empty stomach, the dog refused to enter.
So, after hours of unsuccessful attempts, Hall decided to leave her trap at the building site overnight and return first thing in the morning to try again.
The puppy remained precisely where the rescuer had last seen her when Hall returned to the construction site the next morning, but something was changed. The area was quieter this time, and the dog appeared less frightened.
“I cleaned up the trap and pretended to leave,” Hall explained. “I was driving down the street when I noticed her getting up and circling the trap.”
When Hall returned to the work site, she discovered the dog safely trapped in her trap.
“She was terrified after I pulled her out of my trap,” Hall said.
“She was as frozen as a pancake.” “But she was very kind,” she continued. “So I spent a lot of time with her simply caressing and loving on her.”
Hall then took the dog to the vet, where they had set up a quiet, secluded area for her to unwind for a few days.
They also gave the dog a name that fitted her. “We called her Bella,” Hall explained. “She resembled a Disney princess to us.”
According to Hall, Bella began to come out of her shell once she realized she was secure and loved.
And, because a kind vet tech has offered to foster Bella, Hall is confident that the adorable pooch will thrive in her care and finally have the happily-ever-after she deserves.
“That small construction sign no longer has to be her home,” Hall explained. “And she no longer has to wait.”
