A POLAR bear lies forlornly on a tiny floating chunk of ice, in an image evoking global warming.
The shot of the 800lb youngster curled up on the shrinking berg won snapper Marek Jackowski a prize in the international Golden Turtle photography awards.
Another successful entry was Italian Pasquale Vassallo’s image of a fish in the Med trying to escape discarded plastic netting.
An Indian black turtle by Dmitry Kokh won first prize in The Underwater World category.
And Bird Charmers by Ekaterina Vasyagina showed sealions on rocks and won second prize in the Reserved Russia category.
Nicolas Remy captured a shot of a crested horn shark feeding on an egg – and won third prize in The Underwater World category.
Meanwhile Babak Mehrafsahar snapped a stunning shot of trees in the desert and won second prize in the Magic of Plants category.
The contest, which is in its 15th year, attracted almost 15,000 entries from 107 countries all over the world.
