Trolls target Sir David Attenborough with a shouting and ranting AI voice clone

Harry Potter star Emma Watson was also targeted

After trolls utilized a swearing Sir David Attenborough on a new voice cloning system, security measures will be tightened. The living Leicester icon was one of many well-known figures targeted over the weekend, and as a result, the people behind the technology are now working to tighten security.

Following its introduction earlier this month, the contentious AI-powered ElevenLabs Prime Voice tool featured Sir David’s copied voice. However, according to the Daily Star, Sir David was coerced by some into cursing and ranting about his fictitious history in the navy.

Because users of Prime Voice can upload any voice and make it sound like a celebrity, the swearing Sir David incident occurred. ElevenLabs has received criticism as a result of the decision, which has now backfired.

The company stated its intention when the tool was first introduced earlier this month in Beta form: to provide users with “compelling, rich, and lifelike voices” for storytelling. The technology, according to the business, would also enable users to “create top-quality spoken audio in any voice” and “in any style.”

The business was informed, nevertheless, that people were abusing the AI tool. The trolls did not just target Sir David Attenborough; they also forced Emma Watson, the star of the Harry Potter series, to read passages written by Adolf Hitler.

Trolls on the website also forced Tom Cruise and Titanic director James Cameron to use hateful, racist, and misogynistic language, in addition to Joe Biden, the president. Even cartoon characters were made to sound like they were saying terrible things.

According to ElevenLabs, increased security was being sought in order to snare trolls. “Crazy weekend – thank you to everyone for trying out our Beta platform,” the company said in a statement. Despite the overwhelming positive applications of our technology, we are also noticing an increase in cases of voice cloning abuse.
