“Oh, I definitely cried!”
Sofie, a lovely German shepherd, and her father, Austin, have been together since she was a puppy.
“She adores him,” Sofie’s mother, Ally Ross, told us.
However, due to unforeseen circumstances, Sofie and Austin were forced to spend more than a little time apart this year.
Austin is a member of the United States Armed Forces and was called up early this year for a six-month deployment. Unfortunately, this meant that his regular routine of love and fun with Sofie would have to be put on wait.
It was something that Sofie couldn’t quite grasp.
“Even after he departed, she’d walk into our bedroom and look for him,” Ross explained.
Austin, thankfully, would not be gone forever.
Austin was able to come home last month after completing his assignment. Ross intended to film the moment he knocked on Sofie’s door to surprise her.
The dog’s heart was about to be repaired.
Sofie couldn’t believe her eyes when the door opened.
Sofie’s disbelief quickly turned into an explosion of love and excitement. It was an outward expression of what Sofie’s spirit longed to feel each and every day Austin was away.
“Oh, I definitely cried!” Ross said.
Her dad is back. Their family is complete anew.
With Austin’s return, it’s been business as usual again for him and Sofie — and how sweet it is.
“Now that he’s home, they go on runs and adventures together,” Ross said. “Best buds for sure.”
