GeoBeats Animals paid a visit to John of Ruff Riders Animal Transport in Toronto to learn more about Larry, a senior husky who was rescued from a remote community. Larry had been abandoned by his first family, but luckily he was looked after by a neighbor. The neighbor, John, drove for hours in a snowstorm to get Larry and give him a loving home where he could live out the rest of his life in comfort and peace. Larry, who is a little worn out, has embraced his new life wholeheartedly.
Any human or dog who lives in these communities does not have an easy life. He’s 11 years old. He’s one of the fortunate ones. He has the wolf-like coloring and tail, and his face is a little beat up with his cauliflower ears. He has one ear that looks like a Dorito chip, another that doesn’t look like much, and soulful eyes.
What John didn’t realize was that Larry was a very social dog. So much so that on his first night home, Larry stood guard over other rescues who were scared. He dislikes being alone and invites the other dogs to join him outside.
He’s a sweetheart of a dog. I brought in foster dogs. They were terrified, and he didn’t sleep the first night. He simply stood in front of them all night, guarding them, and he has been instrumental in them breaking out of their shells and learning that life is good.
Larry has developed feelings for a fellow rescue dog named Goldilocks.
