by Stephen King

The steady sloth is difficult to dislike since it is slow and charming as a button. Because of their huge eyes and always-smiling lips, these adorable creatures have become online favorites. If sloths are one of your favorite creatures, there’s no better way to get to know them than to learn how to draw them.

We’ll learn how to draw a three-toed sloth hanging on a branch in nine easy stages in this tutorial. Does it appear to be difficult? Don’t be concerned. All you have to do is take a page from the sloth’s book and follow the step-by-step instructions slowly. Grab a pencil, pen, and some paper if you’re ready to get started. Now is the moment to make a sloth!

Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing a Sloth

STEP 1: MAKE A SPIRAL DRAWING

Start by drawing a single huge spiral on the paper.

STEP 2: PUT A FACE ON IT

To make the sloth’s head, start at the middle of the spiral and add two guidelines (one horizontal and one vertical). Then, on the sloth’s face, follow the directions to help you position a pair of eyes, a nose, and a mouth. We’ll go back and add additional detail to the face later.

STEP 3: SKETCH AN ARM

After that, draw one long arm that reaches high beyond the sloth’s head and starts beneath it. To make the arm’s form, use three rectangles.

STEP 4: AROUND A BRANCH WITH THE OTHER ARM

Then, behind the sloth’s head, add another arm. You’ll need to draw three lengthy toes at the end since this one will wrap around the branch from the opposite side.

STEP 5: DRAW THE HIND LEG

Return your pencil to the sloth’s torso and complete the belly and back, as well as one of the rear legs. To finish this limb, you’ll need to employ rectangular shapes once again.

STEP 6: INSTALL THE SECOND HIND LEG

Then sketch the other hindleg extending slightly out from the rest of the sloth’s body using the same approach. This step can also be used to complete drawing the branch.

STEP 7: FINISH THE FACE WITH DETAILSTEP 7: FINISH THE FACE WITH DETAIL

We can now return to the face to add more detail now that we’ve gone through the sloth’s body. Darken the center and refine the broad almond shape of the eyes. After that, draw some wispy hair around the sloth’s face and darken more regions around the lips and nose.

STEP 8: ADD TEXTURE

After that, you’ll want to give the sloth some additional texture, this time on the body. Draw a variety of wavy hair flowing over the head, neck, arms, and back with long sweeping lines. Hair should be styled in a downward direction in general. Make sure to add some shorter lines to the texture as well.

STEP 9: GO OVER THE DRAWING IN INK

Finally, it’s time to ink over your illustration to finalize it. Carefully trace over your pencil drawing using your pen of choice (we recommend a fine liner). Once you’ve given it enough time to dry, go over it with a rubber eraser to remove any leftover markings. After that, you may either color the drawing or keep it black and white for a beautiful piece of art.

Congratulations! You’ve sketched a sloth.
