David Attenborough filming in Wiltshire for new BBC series

David Attenborough’s latest show, Planet Earth, was shot entirely in Wiltshire.

His new series is now titled ‘Wild Isles,’ which the BBC describes as a working title.

The new five-part natural history series aims to throw a light on the animals and nature on our doorstep, and to accomplish for British and Irish species what the successful Planet series has done for global biodiversity.

Wiltshire will be highlighted, with mayflies spawning on a river in the county and foxes hunting rabbits at night.

The country is no stranger to Sir David’s attention, as it was featured in a BBC broadcast featuring the British Broadcaster in December 2021 when a fossil hunter uncovered a mammoth graveyard on the show.

Sir David Attenborough hosts the new series, which was co-produced by The Open University, the RSPB, and the WWF over three years.

The series employs cutting-edge equipment to film spectacular new behavior, ranging from warring butterflies to hunting sea eagles and killer whales, showing a previously unknown untamed side of the British Isles.

“In my long life, I have traveled to practically every corner of our earth,” Sir David stated. I can guarantee you that, in addition to breathtaking landscape, the British Isles provide incredible animal dramas and wildlife spectacles that rival anything I’ve seen on my global travels.”

The five-part series will begin with an episode outlining why Britain and Ireland are so vital to nature, followed by four episodes celebrating our islands’ four core habitats: forests, grasslands, freshwater, and sea.

“I have always wanted to do a landmark series that truly does honor to our own wonderful fauna,” stated Executive Producer Alastair Fothergill. I am confident that people will be astounded by what is happening right on their doorstep.”

“The multi-award winning team at Silverback are creating an eye-opening celebration of British and Irish wildlife that has to be seen to be believed,” said Jack Bootle, Head of Commissioning, Science and Natural History. You’ll think a Somerset meadow is as gorgeous as the Serengeti, and the North Atlantic is as wild and dramatic as the Antarctic Ocean.”
