A Hardworking Squirrel Fills The Engine Bay Of A Subaru Forester With 558 Walnuts

Every year, a battle with walnuts takes place between human civilization and the animal realm. In one of the most recent episodes, a Subaru Forester owner returned from a week-long vacation to find her engine bay stuffed with 558 walnuts. And, yes, she did count.

We know squirrels can be hardworking animals when it comes to gathering their winter supplies. They use vehicle cavities to store the harvest more often than nuts (sorry, couldn’t help myself). There are numerous reports of squirrel-caused vehicle vandalism. While this may appear amusing on social media, it isn’t when you need your car and discover it isn’t working.

An American red squirrel.

Kathleen LaForce drove away for a week, leaving her Subaru Forester parked outside. She most likely had the surprise of her life when she returned to her car. When she realized something was wrong, we imagine she tried to start the engine. When she lifted the hood, she discovered the engine bay was stuffed to the brim with black walnuts. She took a photo and posted it on the Facebook page Wild Green Memes for Ecological Friends, and her post quickly went viral.

Kathleen doesn’t say how long it took her to clean up the mess, but we know she had a great time doing it. She even counted each walnut, which is how we know there were 558 under the hood. Kathleen’s Subaru, we believe, would triumph in a walnut-driven pissing contest. “My Subaru has 558 walnuts and is bigger than yours,” could be an interesting line. Well, the squirrel has them, or at least the majority of them.

“The squirrel was gently shooed out of the car and was allowed to keep the majority of the walnuts!” “I still felt terrible about undoing all of their hard work,” Kathleen wrote on Facebook. More than 22,000 people reacted to the post, with 1,100 comments and 10,000 shares. Hopefully, the Subaru is still operational.

While we were away from our camper for a few weeks a red squirrel was kind enough to leave Walnuts every where. Some we didn’t find for years. She was also generous enough to chew through all the wires on one side of the hole they went thru. ( the were all black, it took my hubby all week end to fix and match them up ) But the crown of all this she layed her babies on my underwear in the drawer.
Die RED squirrel die. Ok caught and with babies taken far away.
