“This was really a once-in-a-lifetime moment.”
Rahul Singh has been photographing the wildlife near his house in Jalpaiguri, India, for the past six years. He’s captured intimate moments with elephants, rhinos, deer, jackals, and monkeys, but it’s the colorful birds that nest around his city that he’s most passionate about.
He caught a scene that left him speechless last August.
Singh told The Dodo, “I went to an area where there were bushes of these decorative bananas to snap images of sunbirds sipping nectar from them.” “Everything was going as normal till the crimson sunbird began bathing in the water held in the banana blossom petal,” says the narrator.
Early-morning precipitation had accumulated in the banana flower’s bowl-like red petal, and the 4-inch-long songbird wasn’t going to squander it on such a scorching day.
The red sunbird began to use the petal as a bathtub when she’d gotten her fill of nectar.
Singh had never seen anything like that in all his years of bird watching. “I was astounded to observe such strange conduct,” Singh remarked. “As the bird bathed, I kept the shutter button pushed on my camera.”
Singh was overjoyed to be at the right spot at the right time to photograph the magical scene. He later uploaded the photos on Instagram, where they were seen by hundreds of people.
Singh stated, “This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime moment.” “It’s incredible how nature can take us by surprise.”
