A stray dog receives the biggest surprise after many years of life on the streets of Los Angeles. Just as he was about to give up, the deaf puppy discovers a loving family and the cozy home he’d always desired. An uplifting story that demonstrates that even the worst stories may have a happy ending!
The sad, helpless dog, now known as Solovino (Spanish for “he arrived alone”), has spent his whole existence wandering the streets of Los Angeles. As a result, he lived the most difficult existence a dog could have, yet he never gave up and continued moving forward, until today! The pitiful creature, sick, fatigued, and always hungry, had had enough, and with his final efforts, he found a location on someone’s front porch, where he lay down, ready to give up. But he had no idea it was only the start of a new chapter in his life!
When a woman saw an elderly dog lying on her doorstep, she felt sorry for him and began feeding him. Solovino, or Solo, was his name. When she noticed the dog had made himself at home on her porch, she believed he could be a stray and sought assistance from the Rocket Dog Rescue. The dog was transferred to a San Francisco shelter shortly after. Solo was placed up for adoption following a visit to the vet, but no one seemed to want him. For nearly a year and a half, he bounced around from one foster home to the next. But that was until Carol Messina came upon a photo of him on the internet by mistake.
“I wanted to adore him as soon as I saw his face on their site,” Messina told the Dodo. “I thought to myself, ‘Well, his name is Solo!’ That’s what his foster father had been calling him all along! I had a feeling it was fate. Then, when I met him and realized how unhappy he was, I knew he’d be with me for the rest of my life.”
Solo was puzzled and bashful, while being overjoyed that he had finally been given the opportunity to have a lifelong home. Given his difficult upbringing, this was a logical reaction. Nonetheless, Messina was prepared to give him as much time as he needed to feel at ease.
“He put his tail between his legs for months when he initially came to live with me,” the nice woman revealed. “He was completely unresponsive to dogs, humans, and cats, and cringed if anybody attempted to pet him.”
Even yet, the elderly dog was having trouble adjusting to his new existence. It was then that his mother learned he was entirely deaf, as well as having major dental issues. But that didn’t stop Messina from loving him and comforting him in the most kindest way possible. She was willing to aid him no matter what, and she did so finally. They’ve evolved into the loveliest couple.
“People in our neighborhood are often commenting on how he doesn’t seem like the same dog,” Messina said. “For months, he didn’t grin or even use his mouth to pant, and now he smiles, rolls about, and runs full-tilt across the yard a dozen times a day, but this is the finest thing I’ve ever done with my life, and he’s motivated me to adopt additional older dogs that require hospice care,” she says.
