In a remarkable display of courage, a Minnesota woman sprang into action when a bear began chasing her dog, Zeus, down their driveway. Without a second thought, she raced after both the beast and her cherished pet, creating a heart-stopping scene that has since captivated viewers everywhere.
Captured on her home surveillance video, the intense moments showed Bailey Jacobson screaming and sprinting back toward her Maple Grove home as the bear “lunged” toward her.
“Obviously, I was petrified,” Jacobson recounted to FOX 9. Earlier this month, she and Zeus had stumbled upon an alarming sight: three bears rummaging through her trash outside her home.
At the sound of her scream, two smaller bears fled into the woods, but the larger one took off after Zeus, charging down the road in hot pursuit.
“I’m glad Zeus made the decision to go run,” Jacobson, who can be seen heroically chasing after both her dog and the bear in the video, told the station. Her determination to protect Zeus was unwavering.
Jacobson shared the dramatic video on her social media, writing, “Not even a bear could stop me from trying to save my dog.”
She also humorously added, “Shoutout to my @oofos shoes that didn’t fall off while running from a bear,” acknowledging the unexpected yet vital role her footwear played during the chase.
In a twist of fate, Zeus managed to outpace the bear when he turned a corner, redirecting the predator’s attention toward Jacobson.
“It definitely kind of lunged at me, and I was like probably 35 to 40 feet from the bear,” she explained. “At that moment, I thought, ‘Well, I gotta run too, I guess,’ so it was definitely a dual-headed thing where Zeus was running, and I was running.”
Incredibly, the ordeal ended without injury to Jacobson, Zeus, or the bears. Their escape is a testament to Jacobson’s bravery and quick thinking, making her story an inspiring reminder of the lengths we’ll go to protect those we love.
