Shameless Squirrel Keeps Making Himself At Home On Man’s Windowsill

When Michael Brent Boyd bought a historic farm in rural Pennsylvania a few years ago, he quickly realized he wasn’t the only one living there. A family of squirrels had long considered the property their home, and one particularly confident visitor soon made himself unforgettable.

Boyd named the squirrel Rusty, and the cheeky little animal has become a daily part of life on the farm.

A Regular Visitor

Rusty has no shortage of food. Although he’s perfectly capable of finding meals in the wild, he rarely passes up the easy options available around the property. Chicken feed and bird feeders provide convenient snacks, making Boyd’s farm one of his favorite places to visit.

Instead of trying to chase the squirrels away, Boyd decided to simply enjoy sharing the space with them.

“I chose to live with my squirrels rather than worry about them,” he explained.

After helping himself to a generous meal, Rusty has developed an unusual routine. Nearly every afternoon, he stretches out on Boyd’s windowsill for a peaceful nap, seemingly unconcerned that someone is watching from inside.

Over time, Rusty even began bringing along a female squirrel, whom Boyd affectionately named Argent. The pair often relax together on the windowsill, offering an up-close glimpse into their daily lives.

According to Boyd, the squirrels appear completely comfortable around people and sometimes even seem to enjoy the attention.

Living Alongside Wildlife

For Boyd, sharing his historic property with generations of squirrels has become one of its greatest joys. Rather than seeing them as pests, he views them as longtime neighbors who simply continue a tradition that may stretch back decades.

He believes the secret is simple: allow wild animals to behave naturally without disturbing them.

Watching Rusty and Argent go about their lives has become a daily reminder that some of nature’s most rewarding moments happen when people simply stop and observe.

Why Feeding Wildlife Requires Care

Wildlife experts encourage people to enjoy observing wild animals while avoiding overfeeding or making them dependent on human food. Creating wildlife-friendly gardens with native trees, clean water sources, and safe habitats allows squirrels, birds, and other animals to thrive naturally while maintaining healthy behaviors. Responsible coexistence helps protect both wildlife and the ecosystems they call home.
