The Discovery of a Lobster With a Pepsi Logo Printed on its Claw Highlights The State of Our Polluted Oceans

A fisherman in New Brunswick, Canada, discovered an odd lobster with part of the Pepsi logo tattooed on its claw.

The lobster image emphasizes the quantity of garbage humans throw into the oceans. It’s unclear how the branding got on the lobster.

“I’m not sure how he put it on,” said Karissa Lindstrand, a lobster fisherman who shot the photo. “It appeared to be more of a tattoo or a sketch on the lobster than something growing into it.”

Lindstrand and her crew discovered the lobster while sailing on their boat, Honour Bound, off the coast of Grand Manan Island in New Brunswick. She claims to be a great Pepsi fan, consuming up to 12 cans of the beverage per day, which can’t be good for her health. As far as we can tell, this isn’t some shady Pepsi commercial. However, you never know.

“I was thinking, ‘Oh, that’s a Pepsi can,'” Lindstrand explained. “It appeared to be a print placed directly on the lobster claw.”

This story is shocking, but what is almost as shocking is the woman who found the lobster recognized the can because she drinks 12 cans of Pepsi A DAY. https://t.co/83SsoJqbou

Lindstrand and her crew caught the lobster on Tuesday, November 21, but they couldn’t explain the creature’s unique look. Some speculated that a Pepsi can or box got stuck on the lobster as it grew. However, the logo itself was pixelated, implying that it was a printed image.

The lobster, along with the other batch of lobsters sold that day, was later sold. So, somewhere, some lucky punter has probably already eaten it – and perhaps asked their waiter why the chef included a Coke can in their dinner.

It does, however, show the quantity of garbage we’re putting into the oceans. Over 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic trash are predicted to be in the world’s seas, and by 2050, the amount of trash in the ocean would outnumber the number of fish. That’s not good.

As a result, this poor little lobster appears to be the newest victim of our plastic-filled world. Plastic of all sizes can be dangerous to animals because it can be mistaken for food. It appears that it can even alter their look.
