Boy Finds Out After Adopting an Abandoned “Puppy” That He is Actually a Baby Wolf

A man from Tuscon, Arizona, went to knock on the door after noticing a sign that said “Free dog” on the residence. He knew he had to take the tiny one in as soon as he noticed the puppy’s large amber eyes and perky small ears.

He was unprepared for how much work the dog, whom he named Neo, would be. Neo frequently displayed extreme skittishness, was challenging to house train, and required constant attention, which was challenging because he was a student and also had a full-time job.

Neo was typically left in the backyard when the guy left the house, but the canine was recalcitrant to stay there. The puppy would try to burrow his way out or scale the fence to play with the other dogs in the neighbor’s yard. Although his owner constructed a higher fence, Neo quickly chewed through it.

Neo didn’t want to interact with anyone save his owner, but because of his wolf-like need to locate his pack, he was constantly checking in on the neighbourhood dogs. Neo’s visits were initially tolerated by the neighbours, but when he started to bother them, they eventually decided enough was enough.

Neo was put on a leash by the neighbours, who then took him to the Humane Society. They hoped the shelter would be able to house him while they negotiated with the dog’s owner to manage the dog’s behaviour.

When they arrived, a worker who was waiting outside the building noticed Neo and recognised right away that he was no dog. The fact that he was tall and lanky was one indicator, but what really caught her attention was the way he steered clear of eye contact.

She asked the perplexed-looking owners if they knew that wasn’t a dog on their leash, and they admitted that they’d had their suspicions. The Humane Society looked into Arizona’s wolf dog ownership laws and found that in order to legally own one, you needed to have a special permit that was difficult to obtain.

They made the decision to contact Wolf Connection, a wolf dog rescue and sanctuary in California, to inquire about taking Neo. Fortunately, there was room, so all the Humane Society needed to do was contact Neo’s first owner.
