Blind Dog Isn’t Sure He Should ‘Get To Run Free In His Very Own Field’ After A Year In A Shelter

That happy face 🥰

A 6-year-old blind border collie called Jacko needed to leave the shelter he had been living at for more than a year in the UK immediately. His living condition was stressful, and it appeared that he was running out of time to locate a family.

When Jacko had almost given up hope, the ideal application showed up.

According to volunteer Cassie Mogford at Many Tears Animal Rescue, “Jacko suffered in kennels.” “[Because he couldn’t see,] the loudness would make him anxious. Even though he was well liked by everyone on staff and we tried to keep him busy every day, it was never as wonderful as what a home could provide.

Jacko remained upbeat in spite of his circumstances. Although Jacko required delicate, patient introductions and was described by shelter volunteers as “very cuddly, loving, clever, and a really happy wonderful boy,” possible adoptions took time.

In order for Jacko to develop trust, “we decided that he should be rehomed in a peaceful atmosphere, with one or two individuals,” Mogford added. “Plus, [someone with] a big, safe place that he could run about safely and securely in without having to go out on the streets and public playing grounds,” the author said.

His placement in an adult-only household was also determined by the shelter, which further reduced the number of potential adopters. Sue then arrived.

Sue viewed a video we created of Jacko after he had been with us for a year on TikTok, according to Mogford. “After submitting her application, she went to see Jacko and immediately fell in love. In order to make Jacko’s travel as stress-free as possible and to ensure that he was prepared for a smooth introduction to his new dog buddies and home, our team then personally escorted Jacko to her house.

The application was approved, and Jacko and his new mother, Sue, hit it off right away.

Jacko currently resides in the ideal area, according to Mogford. Sue has had great success with him. She is a dog trainer with expertise working with blind canines, and she has acres of acreage where Jacko can run free. There is no greater place for us to call home!

Sue informed us, “I felt he was for me right from the start.” “At first, he struggled with his newfound total freedom and was a little institutionalized. His interactions with the other dogs have occasionally been a little awkward, but that is a work in progress. He warmed up to me quite fast.

And while Jacko isn’t into tug-of-war or ball games, he loves to play with Sue’s other dog, Zoom.

I’ve been having a hard time recently, and having Jacko [and Zoom] to focus on has made me feel better,” Sue stated. He truly deserves the opportunity to find a permanent home. I have the highest regard for the rescue team and everything they have done to help this dog get [to this point].”

In addition to having a fun, new sibling and a permanent home, Jacko now has plenty of room to go about and is loving every minute of it.
