A calf born with a smiley face on its tummy has been spared the abattoir and given a new job as a “lawnmower”. Megan and Barry Coster breed around 700 calves a year at their stud farm in Ripplebrook, West Gippsland, Australia, but had never seen markings like this before. When farmer Barry Coster was checking on his livestock one day, he noticed the unique black and white Holstein calf with markings resembling two eyes, a nose and a smile.

The calf has been nicknamed “Happy” by the Costers because of its markings. Happy has become a hit on social media after Megan shared photos of him online. Many people have expressed their delight at the calf’s unique markings and his story has gone viral.

Megan and Barry have decided to keep Happy on their farm and allow him to roam around and eat the lawns of their farm workers. The calf has become a new favorite among the workers, and some have even expressed interest in keeping him as a pet.

“We’ve seen some number sevens or love hearts on the head and a few strange markings, but we’ve never seen anything that resembles a smiley face before,” said Megan Coster. “A few of our workers are keen to have him as a pet and a lawnmower in their yards. He’ll be around for a while.”

“Wow that’s one for the record books surely,” one person commented. ( Image: Bellbrook Holsteins)

This calf’s unexpected smile reminds us that even in the animal world, there’s always something to smile about. Happy’s unique markings have brought joy and laughter to many people around the world, and we’re sure he’ll continue to do so for years to come.
