Some rescue stories come with a twist nobody saw coming — in this case, quite literally caught on camera.
Ace and his brother Ramsey were both born to a stray cat and found as kittens in a dumpster, having lost their eyes to the rough conditions of life outdoors before they were rescued. Norma Maikovich, a former U.S. Army veterinary technician, took them in after her husband told her about the pair. “He said that they were special needs, but that he knew we’d be able to give them a loving home,” she has said. Ace kept his left eye; Ramsey kept his right — a detail Norma has described as the two of them “completing each other,” since they were inseparable from the start. A Cat Who Never Meets a Stranger
Despite his rough start, Ace grew into an unusually social cat. He greets the mail carrier, delivery drivers, and pretty much anyone who sets foot in the driveway — enough that the family started calling him the unofficial neighborhood greeter. To keep an eye on his adventures, they installed a home security camera on the porch.
What the footage revealed wasn’t just Ace’s usual rounds. It was a boy from the neighborhood who had been showing up almost every single day, sitting with Ace, petting him, and hanging out like old friends — all without the family ever noticing.
The Friendship Nobody Knew About
When Norma and her family reviewed the recordings, they realized this wasn’t a one-time visit. The boy came back daily, and the moment he appeared, Ace would rush over to greet him, flopping onto his side for belly rubs the way cats do only with people they completely trust.
Norma was struck by how easily the two had bonded. “It melted our hearts, not just seeing how much Ace loves this boy, but how familiar they were to each other,” she said of watching the footage for the first time.
The boy’s own parents hadn’t known about the visits either, until the family shared the video. Once everyone was in on it, there was no reason for secrecy — Norma made it clear the boy was welcome anytime. “A friend of Ace’s is a friend of ours,” she said.
