Heartwarming video shows a tow truck driver rescuing a moose stuck in ice: ‘I can’t stand to see him suffer’

A tow truck driver in Saskatchewan is receiving widespread praise online after rescuing a stranded moose trapped in ice during what began as a routine workday.

According to reports, Clint Gottinger, owner of Rebel Towing, encountered the exhausted animal immobilized in a frozen waterway near a roadway junction and immediately decided to stop and help.

Rather than continuing on to waiting service calls, Gottinger reportedly focused on freeing the struggling moose, later explaining that he could not ignore the animal’s suffering.

Using a flatbed tow truck, straps and assistance from nearby residents, the group managed to carefully lift the moose from the ice after it became too weak to escape on its own.

In one of the story’s most memorable moments, the rescued animal reportedly remained on the truck while Gottinger contacted his wife and asked her to bring blankets because he had “a moose on my truck.”

The moose — later nicknamed “Rebel” — was said to have remained near the family for several days while recovering before eventually disappearing back into the wild.

The rescue quickly spread across social media, where many viewers praised the driver’s compassion and willingness to interrupt his workday to help a wild animal in distress.

Stories like this often resonate widely because they highlight the relationship between rural communities and wildlife, especially in regions where large animals such as moose are a regular part of the landscape.

Moose are among the largest land mammals in North America and play an important ecological role in forest ecosystems. However, wildlife experts caution that they can also be extremely dangerous when stressed, injured or approached too closely.

While the rescued moose reportedly became calm enough to tolerate gentle human interaction during recovery, authorities strongly advise against approaching wild moose under normal circumstances.

Wildlife rescues involving ice, roadways and extreme weather conditions can also pose significant risks to people attempting to help.

For many online viewers, the incident stood out not only because of the unusual image of a moose riding on a tow truck, but because it reflected a simple act of empathy that transformed an ordinary day into an extraordinary rescue story.

Why wildlife rescue stories spread widely online

Animal rescue stories frequently gain massive online attention because they combine emotion, unpredictability and human compassion. Wildlife conservation, rural life and environmental awareness content continue to attract large audiences, especially when ordinary people step in to help animals facing dangerous situations.
