Japanese Firm Designs Portable Fish Tanks For Seafood Lovers To Take Dinner Home Alive

A Japanese firm is developing a portable fish tank that allows people to take their dinner home with them. The handheld tank has divided opinion.

The ‘Katsugyo bag’ is a handheld device, with glass panels on either side, meaning you can show off your fish fresh from the market. Designed by a company called the MA Corporation, it’s understood that the product is still in its early stages of development but a launch is planned. The firm has also shared a number of photos to its Instagram account.

One post (translated) reads: “Under development – this fish bag, a product that carries fish ‘live’. Bring the fish you caught and the live fish you bought at the market to your home. We are working to spread live fish.”

In another post, the company explained a bit more about the design features. It reads: “It is divided into two units of the body, and when you put in fish, you can remove the aquarium, store the fish, then connect it to the main body and turn on the power. You can carry the fish, so it is relatively easy to use. Oxygen supply and water temperature maintenance are possible. We will work on the design in detail whilst verifying performance and carrying out an operation check. Let’s dream of a world where it is natural to carry a product like this.”

It’s fair to say, though, that the ‘Katsugyo bag’ has divided opinion, with some wondering when they will be able to get their hands on one, and others slamming it as ‘disgusting’ and ‘barbaric’. Commenting on its page, one fan asked: “Am I a bad fish owner if I don’t take my fish on a walk?” Another chimed in: “Where can I buy this?” While a third added: “Take your fish on a walk (laughing emoji).”

However, not everyone was impressed by the idea and made their feelings known about it. “You guys are absolutely disgusting,” wrote one critic. Echoing these sentiments, another commented: “This is disgusting. You should be ashamed of yourselves!!! Animal abuse at it’s worst. Humans are making my stomach turn with the absolute cruelty they are capable of.”
