Little dog was left in “dangerously hot” car on 90-degree day — firefighter saves her life

As summer approaches and temperatures rise, it’s as important as ever to protect our pets from the hot weather, as they are very susceptible to heat stroke.

But tragically, every year many dogs are left in hot cars, which can cause severe distress or even death. That was the case recently, when one little dog was left in a “dangerously hot” car — but thankfully her life was saved just in time.

Last week, the Northwest Volunteer Fire Department, in Houston, Texas, responded to a call about a tiny dog who was left in an abandoned car.

The department said that the car was “dangerously hot.” The weather in Houston reportedly reached a high of 90 degrees that day, and the temperature in the car was no doubt even higher.

“With temperatures soaring, every second counted,” the department wrote on Facebook.

Firefighters from the department quickly got to work freeing the little dog from the car. Photos show the dog eagerly watching from the passenger seat window as they do their work.

Thankfully, the dog was “rescued safely and is now in good hands,” according to the department. The posts also praises the responding firefighters as “heroes in action.”

It should be common knowledge to not leave a dog in a hot car, but sadly there are still many cases like this every year, including fatalities. According to PETA, 163 animals died from hot car deaths in 2023, while another 855 were rescued.

According to the ASPCA, leaving a dog in a closed car is very dangerous even if you crack the window or park in the shade. Temperatures rise fast, and can climb from 85 degrees to 120 degrees within a half hour.

Thankfully, this little dog was one of the lucky ones who was saved in time — thank you to these firefighters for saving the day!
