“I was well aware that he was a creature of habit.”
Scooby was adopted by his family when he was just a few months old, some 15 years ago. When he wandered out of their garage one day when they returned from grocery shopping, they decided to adopt him after scanning him for a microchip and discovering none. Scooby has been infatuated with everyone in his family since then, and he tells them every day.
Scooby’s father, Brian Peter, told The Dodo, “He is loyal.” “We spend a lot of time outside, and no matter what we’re doing, he’s constantly at our side stalking us.”
Peter and his family reside on land that used to belong to Peter’s great-grandparents. Scooby, his wife, and their children reside in one house, while his parents live in another, and he drives back and forth between the two houses virtually every day to ensure he sees everyone. He always walks the same path, and he’s traveled it so many times that a permanent trail has been etched in the grass.
“I first saw it in the summer of 2020 while mowing lawn,” Peter explained. “Since then, it has gradually evolved into a little trench.” It was amusing to me. He was obviously a creature of habit.”
The route is a visual expression of Scooby’s passion for spending time with his entire family, and they enjoy seeing it every day and seeing him run back and forth along it.
“He spends a lot of time on the back porch since my parents are retired and spend around 85 percent of their waking hours there,” Peter explained. “On their back porch, [Scooby] has his own recliner. So, when my wife and I are at work and the kids are in school, he is there pretty much all day. When we arrive home, he’ll return to our house… I’ve noticed that he doesn’t follow any form of routine. He walks back and forth on his path numerous times a day, in my opinion. He enjoys patrolling the land.”
Scooby will occasionally stray off his path, but for the most part, he stays on it. He’s never had a reason not to follow it since he knows precisely where it’ll lead him: into the arms of his loving family.
