Arlo has enjoyed playing since he was a kitten. He’s always looking for new stuff to play with or new people to play with, and he never gets tired of making up new games.
“As soon as he wakes up, he’s ready to play,” Arlo’s mother, Meaghan James, told us.
Arlo’s favorite game is stealing his mother’s hair ties. He’s been obsessed with hair ties for over a year and can’t get enough of them. He never chews on them, and his mother keeps an eye on him when he has them to ensure his safety. He mostly just bats them around, getting his mother to throw them — and then dipping them in water.
Arlo’s hair tie regimen includes dunking them in his kitty fountain once he’s through playing with them. It’s an odd behavior, and no one understands why he does it other that he enjoys playing in water.
It was never a problem dipping the hair ties in water — until Arlo decided to use something other than his fountain.
Arlo was playing with his hair ties as usual one day when James stepped away for a few moments. She expected him to be dipping a hair tie in the fountain when she returned, but he wasn’t there. She went looking for him and instead found him dipping his hair tie in the toilet.

James couldn’t help but laugh, but also had no idea how long he’d been sneaking off to dip hair ties in the toilet. Now, the main house rule is always close the toilet lid and the bathroom door, just in case.
“Arlo is no longer allowed to dip them in the toilet,” James said. “If he doesn’t fish them back out, I have to! It was so funny to see, but now he’s encouraged to play in his water fountain.”
Arlo loves to play with his hair ties, and it’s pretty cute to watch — as long as his games no longer involve the toilet.
