This Australian Bat Hospital’s Orphaned Baby Bats are Just too Cute

by Stephen King

FacebookTweetPinLinkedIn

What could be cuter than a newborn bat swaddled in a blanket? That’s what: a veterinary facility full of orphaned newborn bats wrapped in baby blankets. The Australian Bat Clinic & Wildlife Trauma Centre on the Gold Coast Hinterland of eastern Australia takes in young bats (called ‘pups’) whose mothers have died, as well as adult bats suffering from mites and other bat illnesses.

The baby blankets they wrap over the tiny bat pups aren’t just for show; if the baby bats have been orphaned, they don’t have their moms’ wings to keep them warm, so these blankets are the next best thing.

If any of our readers believe bats are frightening or wicked, we hope these photos and videos can persuade them otherwise! If not, check out the cute tiny bats at the Tolga Bat Hospital in north-eastern Australia. Nearly 100 distinct species of bats may be found in Australia, with between 25 and 30 of them living in the region where the Australian Bat Clinic is located.
