Can you find her? 🐍
Giving snakes their space is perhaps the best way to coexist happily with them. But frequently, that entails identifying them first. It may also take some practice.
Rattlesnake Solutions, an Arizona-based company that relocates reptiles, recently published a picture that was shot by one of its handlers. A western diamondback rattlesnake is present there, however at first glance it could appear to be a serene environment free of any threats.
Could you locate her?
You’re not the only one having trouble locating her. Her exceptional ability to blend in makes it challenging to find the snake.
Bryan Hughes, proprietor of Rattlesnake Solutions, told The Dodo that rattlesnakes are excellent at concealing and that their natural camouflage sometimes comes close to being flawless. It serves as a good illustration of why most people are so unaware of their surroundings.
It turns out that the snake is practically in the foreground, basking in the shadow of a rock:
The majority of the posts made [on Rattlesnake Solution’s Facebook page] are what Hughes described as context training. The better homeowners are at seeing snakes in cover, the more practice they get.
But having that talent benefits more than just humans.
“Numerous fans of our page have said that they were able to spot a rattlesnake hidden in the yard when they felt they wouldn’t have otherwise. As a result, they may have avoided getting bitten, and the snake is also safer “Hughes remarked.
In the end, the key is to be aware of when a snake is nearby so that you can give it some room.
In these regions where development and natural habitat converge, Hughes added, “That kind of understanding goes a long way towards coexistence.”
